What awaits you

Your journey begins in Nepal, where vibrant temples, historic royal cities, and a rich culture offer a first impression before setting off for the mystical kingdom of Bhutan. From breathtaking Himalayan panoramas, colourful dzongs and pilgrimage trails, this is a journey shaped by living traditions and unforgettable encounters with the locals. These and many more adventures await you:

  • Explore Nepal with a stopover in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur

  • Take in Himalayan views from Dochula Pass and the calm of the Punakha Valley

  • Hike above the Paro Valley to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktshang)

  • Visit monasteries, dzongs, and lively markets in Thimphu and Paro

  • Discover local cuisine during a cooking class featuring traditional Bhutanese dishes

Why Bhutan

Bhutan is not a typical travel destination − it is a true gem that has preserved its distinct and carefully protected character. Through a carefully managed tourism policy, the kingdom avoids mass tourism: visitor numbers are regulated through a mandatory daily fee as well as strict travel requirements. This is part of the appeal: you aren’t travelling to an overcrowded tourist hotspot, but to a thoughtfully preserved haven of peace, culture and spirituality.

Tourism revenues are invested in environmental projects, education, and healthcare − so part of your journey directly supports local communities. Bhutan is also famous for its philosophy of Gross National Happiness: rather than focusing solely on economic growth, the country places the well-being of its people at the centre of national life. Everyday life is shaped by mindfulness, sustainability and a deep respect for nature and tradition.

Bhutan is simply magical − spiritual experiences, pilgrimage hikes and meaningful encounters shape your journey. Those who visit Bhutan get more than just a stamp in their passport: they experience something authentic that touches both the soul and the senses.

Best time to visit

In March, Bhutan comes alive with the colours of spring: rhododendrons begin to bloom, the valleys turn lush green and the temperatures are pleasantly mild. The generally clear skies offer excellent conditions for hiking and stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks.

Your itinerary

Day 1

“Namaste” - welcome to Nepal! You will travel independently to Kathmandu. Wondering why Nepal is the perfect starting point? As a protected jewel, Bhutan has only a limited number of international flight connections, and Nepal offers one of the best gateways into the kingdom. Depending on your arrival time, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, where you can freshen up and relax after your journey. In the evening, you will meet the other travelers and your guide during a welcome dinner - enjoy your meal!

Day 2

Exploring Nepal’s capital: In the morning, you will discover Kathmandu. At the famous Durbar Square, you can admire the royal palace, pagodas, and temples - true masterpieces of Nepalese wood carving. Afterwards, you will climb the many steps leading up to the Swayambhunath Stupa and visit the Museum of Nepali Art, home to an impressive collection of local artworks. After enjoying lunch together, you will continue to Bhaktapur, where you will explore one of the most beautiful and atmospheric royal cities in the Kathmandu Valley.

Day 3

Buddhism and Hinduism: You begin the day at the impressive Boudhanath Stupa, the most important Buddhist sanctuary in Nepal. Here you can feel the spiritual atmosphere as prayer flags flutter in the wind. Afterwards, you will immerse yourself in traditional craftsmanship at the Carpet Museum. The journey continues into Hinduism: at Pashupatinath, one of the most significant Hindu temples in the country, you will experience religion and rituals up close. In the afternoon, there is time for you to explore Kathmandu on your own or to discover more of its hidden corners together as a group.

Day 4

Arrival in Bhutan: In the morning, you will transfer to Kathmandu Airport, where your flight to Paro takes you directly into the Kingdom of Bhutan. Your Bhutanese guide will warmly welcome you to the Land of the Thunder Dragon. From Paro, you continue your journey to Thimphu, the only capital city in the world without traffic lights. High above the city, you will visit the impressive Buddha statue and enjoy sweeping views over the valley. Before the day comes to an end, you will attend a cultural performance featuring graceful dancers in colorful traditional costumes.

Day 5

In the Thimphu Valley: After breakfast, you will visit Changangkha Lhakhang Monastery, a temple dating back to the 12th century. At the King’s Memorial Chorten, you can observe devotees turning the large prayer wheels - a special moment to immerse yourself in local spirituality. At the Textile Museum, you will then discover Bhutan’s vibrant and highly intricate weaving traditions. In the afternoon, you will lace up your hiking boots for a roughly two-hour walk on Sangaygang Hill. Along the way, you will enjoy fantastic views over the Thimphu Valley and visit the charming Wangditse Monastery, dating back to the 18th century - a perfect blend of activity, culture, and panoramic scenery.

Day 6

Himalayan panorama: On your way to Punakha, the coach slowly winds its way up to Dochula Pass at 3,088 metres. In clear weather, you can admire the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas from here − a truly breathtaking view that leaves a lasting impression. In Punakha, the former capital, you’ll visit the impressive Punakha Dzong, a traditional fortress also known as the Palace of Great Happiness. Perched on a hill above the town lies Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple, where couples come to pray for children of their own. Afterwards, a walk through the surrounding area offers a glimpse of rural life.

Day 7

Highlights in the Punakha Valley: After breakfast, you’ll embark on a two-hour hike up to the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten, perched high above the Punakha Valley. At noon, you’ll have a picnic lunch by the riverbank and admire the 160-metre-long Punakha suspension bridge, lined with colourful prayer flags. You’ll then continue to Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, a historic monastery fortress of great significance for Bhutan. The day concludes with a visit to a nearby nunnery close to your hotel, offering a insight into the region’s deep-rooted spiritual life.

Day 8

Exploring Paro and receiving a blessing: On your return to Paro, you’ll once again cross Dochula Pass with breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks. In Paro, you’ll visit the impressive Paro Dzong − a fortress, monastery and administrative centre that also served as a filming location for the Hollywood movie “Little Buddha”. To the north, majestic Mount Chomolhari rises above the valley. You’ll then visit a temple where a local lama performs a blessing ceremony. Listen to the prayers and mantras of the monks and let yourself be captivated by the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.

Day 9

Ascent to Bhutan’s landmark: Like an eagle’s nest, Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktshang) clings to a cliff high above the Paro Valley. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived at the monastery riding on the back of a tigress − and you’ll follow the pilgrimage trail on foot. The hike takes 5–6 hours (challenging, approx. 800 metres of elevation gain) to reach one of Bhutan’s most important spiritual sites. From the top, there are breathtaking views across the valley − absolutely worth every step. In the evening, you’ll visit a local family and learn how to prepare ema datshi (a spicy cheese dish) and momos (a type of dumpling). During dinner afterwards, you’ll enjoy your own creations. This is what gay adventure tours are all about!
