Why China
China doesn’t do things halfway. This journey takes you from imperial palaces and vast city skylines to river gorges, old gardens and high-speed trains cutting across the country. One moment you’re standing on the Great Wall or facing the silent ranks of the Terracotta Army; the next, you’re watching the Yangtze widen between cliffs and river towns. It’s a gay group tour through China shaped by bold contrasts, long distances and constant movement.
What makes China so powerful is the way history sits inside everyday life. In Beijing, imperial landmarks still shape the city. In Xi’an, thousands of clay warriors guard the tomb of the first emperor. In Nanjing and Suzhou, tombs, gardens and old waterways reveal a quieter side of the country. Tradition isn’t presented like a museum piece here - it sits beside traffic, tea houses, street food and cities that keep rising.
The Yangtze River cruise slows things down. For three days, you’ll travel through gorges and river landscapes, with shore excursions along the way and time on board to take it all in. It’s calmer than the cities, and a strong counterpoint to the speed and energy elsewhere on this gay holiday in China.
April is a good time to discover China: spring has arrived, temperatures are generally mild, and the major cities can be explored comfortably before the heat of summer sets in. From Beijing and Xi’an to the Yangtze and Shanghai, you can expect a varied mix of city life, river landscapes and cultural highlights - with pleasant conditions for sightseeing and time outdoors.

China’s Great Icons
ancient to modern
"This journey brings together many of China's most iconic highlights with meaningful insights into everyday life and local traditions. From the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army to tea ceremonies, night markets and life along the Yangtze, it offers a remarkably complete introduction to one of the world's most fascinating countries."
Your itinerary
Day 1
Ni hao! You’ll arrive independently in Beijing and transfer from Beijing Capital Airport to your hotel. Your guide will welcome you there before you head straight into your first taste of the city with a visit to the Summer Palace - imperial architecture, lakeside views and a first sense of China’s vast capital. In the evening, you’ll sit down with the group for dinner at a local restaurant, easing into the journey ahead with the guys.

Day 2
Imperial landmarks and Peking duck: After breakfast, you’ll stop at the Temple of Heaven before continuing to Tiananmen Square, the “Square of Heavenly Peace”. From there, you’ll visit the Imperial Palace, once the centre of power for China’s emperors. In the evening, one of Beijing’s great classics awaits: Peking duck. Your guide will also give you a few tips on handling chopsticks - useful, practical and best tested over a delicious dinner.
Day 3
The Great Wall at Badaling: Today brings one of the great icons of your gay China tour: the Great Wall at Badaling. The climb is demanding in places, with steep steps that sometimes rise almost to knee height, but the view makes the effort worthwhile. From the top, the wall seems to run endlessly across the hills - stone, watchtowers and open landscape stretching towards the horizon. On the way back to Beijing, you’ll stop at a pearl farm before returning to the city.

Day 4
Old town, night market and jiaozi: You’ll leave Beijing behind and travel by high-speed train to Xi’an, a journey of around six hours. Once there, you’ll explore the old town, visit the Great Mosque and head into the night market, where the city becomes louder, warmer and more immediate. In the evening, dinner is all about jiaozi. Dumplings like you know them? Not quite - these are different, but no less delicious. Served with soy sauce, fragrant vinegar and chilli oil, they bring plenty of flavour. Just watch out for the fire dragon!
Day 5
The Terracotta Army and on to the Yangtze: Today brings another heavyweight - the Terracotta Army in Xi’an. Thousands of life-sized warriors and horses stand guard at the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, China’s first emperor - silent, disciplined and still powerful after more than two thousand years. After visiting a jade workshop, you’ll continue by train to Chongqing, a journey of around six hours. In the evening, you’ll have a hotpot dinner before boarding your Yangtze cruise ship. Over the next few days, this part of your gay adventure in China will move between shore excursions and time to relax on board.

Day 6
Downstream on the Yangtze: You’ll spend the day on the Yangtze, travelling around 630 km downstream through one of China’s most dramatic river landscapes. Cliffs, gorges and changing shorelines pass by as the ship makes its way through the water, including sections such as Wu Gorge and Bellows Gorge. After an excursion to one of the Yangtze’s tributaries, you’ll return to the ship for dinner on board.
Day 7
The Three Gorges Dam: Today brings the landmark of the Yangtze River cruise: the Three Gorges Dam. As the ship continues along the river, you’ll pass towering cliffs and wide stretches of water shaped by one of the world’s largest engineering projects. Lunch and dinner will be served on board, giving you time to take in the views from the deck and let this quieter part of your gay holiday in China unfold at its own speed.

Day 8
From the Yangtze to Nanjing: Beyond the huge dam near Yichang, the Yangtze becomes slower and wider. Today, you’ll leave the cruise ship behind and continue overland by high-speed train to Nanjing, a journey of around five hours. After days on the river, the contrast is immediate: back on land, back among stations, streets and city lights. In the evening, you’ll sit down for hotpot at a local restaurant - rich, warming and made for sharing with the guys.
Day 9
Nanjing - tombs, city walls and modern China: Today you’ll explore Nanjing, a city with a long and powerful history. You’ll visit the mausoleum of Dr Sun Yat-sen, founder of modern China, set amid greenery at the foot of Purple Mountain. Your guide will then take you to the imperial Ming tombs and Nanjing City Wall - reminders of the city’s former power and its long place in Chinese history.

Day 10
Gardens, silk and water gates: You’ll continue to Suzhou, known for its classical gardens, old waterways and long silk tradition. Here, you’ll visit the Garden of the Master of the Nets, a carefully composed world of courtyards, ponds and quiet corners. You’ll also stop at a silk spinning mill before strolling along Panmen Water Gate, one of the city’s historic landmarks. In the evening, you’ll arrive in Shanghai and enjoy a dinner of Suzhou specialities.
Day 11
Old town, Bund and tea rituals: You’ll start in Shanghai’s old town, walking to Yu Garden and the old teahouse with its famous Zigzag Bridge. From there, the city opens up: you’ll continue along the Bund, Shanghai’s colonial waterfront, before heading to Nanjing Road, one of the city’s classic shopping streets. Later, the focus turns to a traditional tea ceremony. A tea master will prepare oolong tea according to old rituals — rinsing the cups and teapot, placing the leaves, pouring the hot water and turning a simple drink into something precise, calm and deeply rooted in Chinese culture.

Day 12
Museum, harbour and farewell dinner: Your final full day in Shanghai begins with the Shanghai Museum, where ancient bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy and paintings bring another layer of Chinese history into focus. Later, you’ll see the city from the water on a harbour cruise - skyline, river traffic and the hard edge of modern Shanghai all in view. In the evening, you’ll meet the guys again for a farewell dinner in a long-established restaurant - a fitting final night on this gay China tour.
Day 13
Return journey: You’ll transfer to the railway station and continue by maglev train to Shanghai Pudong Airport. After almost two weeks of imperial cities, river landscapes and shared moments with the guys, your gay tour of China comes to an end.

Hotels
Throughout your journey, you’ll stay in four good mid-range hotels with local 4- to 5-star ratings, giving you comfortable bases in Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing and Shanghai. On the Yangtze, you’ll spend 3 nights on a 5-star cruise ship operated by China Goddess.
